Cassius2

Prima (L) and Junia

Guess who’s back, back again? Some of my favorite queer lady comic characters are back! Tell your friends!

(With apologies to Eminem, but really, tell your friends.)

I’ve written about Cassius and its creative team before, and it has been a long while since Issue 2 was out, so here’s an update: the Kickstarter for Issue 3 was launched last week (very aptly on the Ides of March)! Check it out here! Continue reading

Hayden Black on Gen Zed, the First Animated Show with a Transgender Lead Character

GZ1

Hayden Black is a writer, voiceover artist and the creator of Hulu’s Goodnight Burbank. He’s also the creator, writer and director of Gen Zed, an animated comedy about the adventures of four Millennial housemates. What’s notable about Gen Zed is that it is the first animated series with a transgender actress in the lead role—it’s about time! Here, he gives us a bit of background on his upcoming show and the importance of diversity in the media.

Tell us a little about Gen Zed.

It’s an anarchic comedy about growing up whilst immersed in tech. About finding out who we are whilst drowning in choices. It’s also about understanding and accepting each other no matter who we are. So buried in all that punk is a totally hippy vibe.

What are the main characters in the show like?

Real. The one thing I hope separates us from other animated series is that while we might have similar flights of fancy, the people here are real. They’re beautiful, they’re ugly, they’re spiteful, they’re loving, they’re pieces of shit, they’re wonderful. Just like you and me. Continue reading

pink-bw-coverThere’s a social media movement happening right now as I write this. #WeWantWidow is trending.
There are Black Widow Flash Mobs–and it’s the first ever multi-city cosplay flash mob–appearing across the world. Why? Because fans (of all genders) want to see Black Widow get as much representation as her male counterparts. Continue reading

Thor’s Sales Record is Evidence that Diversity in Comics is a Good Thing

Thorcover

You don’t say. Well, it should go without saying, but that hasn’t always been the case.

I’ve previously written about the importance of gender diversity for making comics accessible to a broader range of readers. Without having to rehash a lot of that, here’s some empirical evidence that shows that not only does gender diversity seem to morally be a good thing to have in comics, it also seems to have notable financial benefits. Now Paris Hilton is Also Getting a Video Game

Actually, she's a repeat offender when it comes to "celebrities with video games".

Actually, she’s a repeat offender when it comes to “celebrities with video games”.

Get ready to groan, everyone. First it was Kim Kardashian. Then it was Lindsay Lohan. Soon, Katy Perry and Kanye West will have their own as well.

Today, Hong Kong-based Animoca Brands announced that Paris Hilton would also have her own video game. The company signed a deal to agreement to license the name and likeness of Hilton, as well as imagery and content from Paris Hilton Entertainment, the company who manages her brand. Animoca Brands is responsible for other licensed gaming apps around characters like Ben 10, Garfield, Doraemon, and Astro Boy. Continue reading

No Man’s Sky Releases on PS4 this August

maxresdefault

Already named as one of the most anticipated titles of the year, Hello Games has purportedly set the release date for No Man’s Sky to be in August 2015 in a timed exclusive for the PS4.

Specifically, the space exploration game is rumored to released after E3 this year. This coincides with Australia’s Play Magazine’s information about the game being released in Q3 this year, which would place the game’s release somewhere between July and September.

Destiny Troll tells Victims to “Suck it up”

cuckoo Last week, a video went viral about a young Destiny player who used the Share Play feature on his PS4, and had two high-leveled characters and an exotic weapon deleted by a stranger when he stepped away for a few minutes. The victim was 11-year-old Henry, who went by the handle CuckooKnight.

Much vitriol was leveled at KirmitTHEfrog, the account that deleted the characters, including someone threatening to find and burn down his house, or another person telling him that they “wished he got cancer and died”.

WTF of the day: Soulcalibur: Lost Swords hires Hentai Artist for Female Character Costumes (NSFW)

By now, it’s not news that the game industry is rife with accusations of sexism, misogyny and objectification of women.

Given the publicity that the industry’s received in the past year about its horrendous sexism problem, it’s baffling that Bandai Namco Games has collaborated with hentai artist Yamatogawa to design new costumes for characters in their free-to-play PS3 game Soulcalibur: Lost Swords.
